Site-specific installation

Displaced (2018) is a collaborative work with artist Lisa Tolcher made with environmental weeds and rusted metals installed in the backyard and exposed to the natural elements of sun, light and rain.

To install Displaced, Ferracin transported seedling of the exotic vine Cardiospermum grandiflorum (balloon vine) from her Sydney bush environment - which is well outside its native habitat of America, India and Africa - to the outdoor space at Culture at Work. She allowed the infestation to (safely) spread, thus demonstrating botanical entropy.

Ferracin wanted to recreate the same invasive feeling she experienced when observing the vine overtaking Casuarina trees in the native environment. By exposing the plastic vases containing the seedlings, Ferracin also alludes to the plastic invasion in the consumerist world.

The three sculptures in Displaced were constructed with compressed Casuarina needles and exhibited within the same displaced context as a way of reflecting the protective and nurturing nature of the native flora in contrast with the uncontrolled growth of noxious weeds.
